Why not make a symbolic link back to the original config directory, this way the double path, if it will ever be backported, will not affect the original location. Like this, example with SailOTP
cd ~/.local/share/harbour-sailotp
mv harbour-sailotp rmthis
ln -s . harbour-sailotp
